Class Dump

Some random art dumps from my classes of the semester.

Is it so very obvious I'm taking a character design class?

Figure Drawing Dump

Added 20 charcoal/graphite sketches from my figure drawing classes to the showcase site.

I'm a very stingy artist in that if I can get away with using super-cheap newsprint, I'll use it. I believe I actually used the back of used sheets when I discovered I was at the end of the pad one day in class. -_-;;

I Met R13...

... And he graciously agreed to sit down for a portrait.

Who is R13? Well, find out more at Blacklist Studios and get yourself a copy of the issue.

Oh, I also realized how out of practice I am when I have trouble with my ellipses. I'm also still in a grunge texture mood.

2009 Profile

I haven't updated my drawn profile in forever, it seems, so I might as well do it today:

If I was better dressed, I might be able to pull off a secretary-chic look. Alas, I still dress like a college-dropout, even when it's summer.

Fish of Horror

Heh, found this cleaning out my old folders of RAW photo files... It's from an illustration class where we have to use 5 textures/patterns in an pen&ink drawing. I never go with ordinary concepts if I'm allowed to.

Sorry for the horrid photo quality--I might do a better one if I ever need to.

What the hell happened? Something EPIC, that's what.

P.S. Yes, the wallpaper is hand-drawn. Though, I did cheat by making the pattern in photoshop, distorting it to the right perspective, then printing it out and traced it on. It still took me a while to complete with major hand cramping (I think this was 11"x14"? Or was it 9"x12"??).

Sobriquets.net new splash

We got a new splash image over at Sobriquets courtesy of Jess.

We're laughing over how "sooooo print" and "sooooo swiss" it is. XD

WIP - Alice's return

After finding out there's going to be a sequel to American McGee's Alice, I had time to replay the game last week. (I was in a nostalgic mood, so I actually replayed Half-Life as well--stupid vertigo inducing jumping sections!)

Then, feeling a bit inspired, figured I could throw out a couple of fanarts to celebrate the news. Some WIPs:

As usual, I change my styles according to the individual image concepts I have in my head, so the finished versions of these two would probably come out looking like different people drew it.

But man, it's been a while since I did a proper illustration in openCanvas, especially after two semesters of Painter...

Color scheme: The Usual

Well, might as well sync mostly everything with the red-black-gray-white scheme I use so often. Coincidentally, the red-black-white combo is also the colors of my school, har har.

When it comes to picking colors, I confess I suck at it. In fact, I find I sometimes get so frustrated it's one of my most frequent complaints to my instructors. Two of them, in two different classes, have nicely asked if I might happen to be color-blind.

Argh. I don't know... I don't think so... I even took some online tests and I'm definitely not the legal definition of being color blind--I just suck at picking colors. (This problem, apparently, doesn't extend to looking at other people's colors--I can generally tell if something is horribly garish or very nicely done.)

It's a big fear I have when being a colorist that I'm not seeing the same colors as my client--or I'm alone in thinking something's okay--but so far I don't think I gotten any complaints...

Blargh, I should probably just keep practicing with my values. If the values are correct, horrendous color combos can be given a pass, especially if the chroma of the hues are lowered.

JackMaster "Online"

Not completely done yet (still need to finishing setting up the gallery and links out) but might as well just put it out there.

JackMaster
!

Hmmm, this might be the only one that's actually a sobriquet among the sobriquets.net sub-domains--for now.

JackMaster building

Woo~ I'm working on my JackMaster site, which is where I put my artwork and things that don't fall into "fanart", "showcase", or "Christian" categories.

Ended up using Wordpress with the simplest template I could find as it fits the theme that JackMaster doesn't really have a theme--it's my stuff at its most basic.

I might have it unofficially online tommorow or in a few more days as I still have to add in links and figure out what I want the gallery to be like.

Portal simplification

Did a cut-down of my portal and made things way more straightforward. I dug up a semi-old quick sketch&color and tacked that up as the layout, har har. Here's the full shot of the goth-y chick:

Note: Yes, I can't decide what color I want this blog to be in. I guess I'll stick with gray for now...

PsychoAnn.com is online

Clicky here!

Heh, in the end, I got too lazy to design my own site and Jes so happened to refer me to Indexhibit. Their system perfectly suited my need for simplicity and I love their intuitive back-end control panel.

I got some of my newest stuff there (which I haven't showed online yet) but I still need to set up the fine-art section. Basically it'll be the place where I put up what I think is my best (non-fanart) work.

About my dead backup hard-drive... it's dead. It's very, very, physically dead. I think I lost many originals and raw art files but I try not to think about it orI'llstartscreamingandnotstop.

Age of Reptiles tribute

Pencil sketched then colored through quick with Photoshop (and a dabble of Painter for the background).

It's been quite a while since I've drew something just because I wanted to--in fact, it seems the last time I did so was last year.

Well, I'm happy I can strike this off my list. Showbread's Age of Reptiles album is in my top 5 favoritiest albums of all time and I've had this image of a kid in a croc mask in my head from the first time I heard the titular song. The album in whole is just awesome but the song has a great message.

I went through many concepts before deciding a straight on shot would be enough. This piece can also be put in my "creepy young girls" series (yes, I seem to draw those a lot).

Portfolio Site

I'm about half-way through building my "portfolio" site at psychoann.com.

At first, I was determined to just steal Jes' layout and script but got too lazy and ended up doing my usual plain HTML thing. I'll most likely redo the whole thing at the end of year as I take my "flash portfolio website" class so it makes little sense to put too much into the current one.

It'll probably be up after the weekend as I need to rummage through huge drawings and take photos, hrm.

Update #1: The weekend heat wave we had messed with plans. I also discovered I need to buy a HD enclosure for the drive I had used as a backup. It may be possible the drive itself is shot to heck, and if so then I've lost a good amount of artwork over the last 2-4 years that I haven't uploaded or burned to a disc.

Urk, not a pleasant thought...

Yet Another Blog

This puts my blog count up to seven. Though, each of those have vastly different content so I think I'm pretty justified in starting one just for my art/project posts.

So yeah, this is yet another art blog. One that chronicles just how little I actually accomplish in a year. *shifty eyes*
